Saturday, January 21, 3:00 PM Gordon Chapel, 645 Boylston St. Boston, MA 02116
A program featuring music of Jean-Marie Leclair (16971764), the most important composer of the French violin school, and of his notorious rival Jean-Pierre Guignon (17021774), an Italian-born virtuoso who was the last to hold the title Roy des Violons but was forced to resign due to his unpopularity among his colleagues. The program also includes solo and trio sonatas of Jean-Baptiste Barrière (17071747), one of the finest cellists of his time and the first to write fully idiomatic music for the cello.
