The Crown of the Holly Queen by Eli Effinger-Weintraub Staged Reading
If you're looking for something queer, Pagan, or just plain not Christmas this December as an antidote to the cornucopia of Santa hats and live Nativities this winter, look no further than Gadfly's own headquarters, The Fox Egg Gallery on December 17th and 18th. Gadfly and its long-term non-monogamous partner The Fox Egg Gallery manage to fit something for everyone into two meaningful nights of community and connection.
First up on December 17th at 7:00 P.M. is this event! We have a staged reading of local playwright extraordinaire Eli Effinger-Weintraub's that she describes as her most Pagan work to date, The Crown of the Holly Queen. The Crown of the Holly Queen was part of this year's Tease: The Easy Access Script Experience by Little Lifeboats, and offers a Yule focus for the holiday season, speaking to the huge overlap between the substantial Pagan and queer communities that the Twin Cities has to offer. The Crown of the Holly Queen takes place as Winter Solstice approaches, shifting the balance of power in Groveland. Quirk's growing weaker by the day, and Alex may be forced to drastic measures to save her. Gavin's new boss is far more than the ruthless executive she seems to be--but that's okay, because he is, too. And Gwin can only watch as zyr closely guarded secrets become everybody's business. As the darkness grows and the situation worsens, they must each decide what lines they're willing to cross to protect what's theirs.
The reading will be directed by Immanuel Elliott and will include the acting talents of Emily Weiss, Starla Larson, Zachariah White, Jay Simmons, and Anna Letts Lakin. This performance will feature a talk back with actors, director, and playwright. Tickets at the door are Pay What You Can but no one is turned away for lack of funds.
