Orange Girls present The Road to Mecca
Written in 1985, The Road to Mecca tells the story of a widow living in South Africa during Apartheid. Miss Helen (Kevin Kline Award-winner Nancy Lewis) rejects having her life managed by her well-intentioned friends and government, and creates a Mecca of art in her home. Along the way, it becomes clear that the road to hell really is paved with good intentions. Her insistence on life on her own terms makes Miss Helen, a woman of a certain age, an inspiration to women of all ages. The Orange Girls Theatre Companys production of The Road to Mecca will be directed by Sarah Whitney and features Nancy Lewis, Richard Lewis and Orange Girls co-founder and Kevin Kline Award-winner Brooke Edwards. The production will also feature the work of local artists, who have been commissioned to bring the eclectic artwork of Miss Helen to life. The Orange Girls is the resident theater company at COCA and all performances are held at the Anheuser-Busch Black Box Theater at COCA, located at 524 Trinity Ave., in the University City Loop.
