Ecstasies and Anguish
Vajra Voices exhibits the contrasting exuberant free-verse chant of the 12th century St. Hildegard von Bingen with the intricate 14th century polyphony of Guillaume de Machaut. Music from Vajra Voices newly released CD O Eterne Deus: Music of Hildegard von Bingen will be featured.
The women's vocal ensemble, Vajra Voices, sings medieval to modern music in a singing style inspired by Hildegard von Bingen that is "clear, sweet, and strong." In Eastern spiritual traditions, the Sanskrit word vajra symbolizes the thunderbolt of clarity and the indestructible nature of the diamond which signify strength of spirit. Vajra Voices new CD, O Eterne Deus: Music of Hildegard von Bingen (on the Music&Arts label) is available on ITunes. Vajra Voices is an affiliate of the San Francisco Early Music Society.
