Jaggery ~ Having It Out With Melancholy

Avant-garde chamber-pop collective Jaggery presents an evening recital at the Lilypad, performing two distinct sets. The first set will be the premiere of Having It Out With Melancholy, a song cycle created for the band by local composer Michael J. Veloso. A setting of American poet Jane Kenyons poem cycle of the same name, which chronicles her struggle with depression, Velosos work takes listeners on a thirty-minute journey exploring angular, unstable rhythms, alternate tonalities, and unconventional song structures specifically written for Jaggerys unique instrumentation (piano, harp, viola, upright bass, drum kit, and vocals).

Jaggery will also perform a set of their own art-rock originals, with a song selection spanning their twelve-year discography.
