LUCO - Concert Five 2016-2017
TRIPLE PLAY
SCHUMAN New England Triptych BEETHOVEN Triple Concerto BRAHMS Symphony No. 3
Ludwig van Beethovens Triple Concerto provides a rare opportunity to experience three soloists at the same time. LUCOs former assistant conductor and featured soloist, cellist Julian Schwarz returns to our stage with his partner, Canadian pianist Marika Bournaki and joined by virtuoso violinist Jo Nardolillo. This power trio will dazzle you with its prowess and fiery passion!
Another new composer to LUCO this season is American William Schuman (not to be confused with Robert Schumann) whose famous 1956 composition New England Triptych is based on William Billings Revolutionary period compositions.
Johannes Brahms, feeling a towering sense of responsibility following on the giant footsteps of Beethoven, took twelve years to complete his first symphony. Once it was celebrated and embraced by the tough Viennese critics and audiences, he felt that the door was fully open for the realization of his grand symphonic vision. His third symphony is considered by many as his most perfect and features one of the most moving and sublime melodies he ever composed, featured in the third movement.
