APOTHEOSIS OF THE DANCE
GRIEG Symphonic Dances ARNOLD Four Scottish Dances BEETHOVEN Symphony No. 7
It was Richard Wagner, a champion of Ludwig van Beethovens music and a great conductor of his symphonies, who had described Beethovens 7th as The Apotheosis of the Dance. Each movement of Beethovens masterpiece is propelled by irresistible dance rhythms that enthralled the audience during the premiere in 1813 with the composer himself at the helm. The performance was so successful that the second movement Allegretto had to be encored immediately!
Norwegian and English composers Edvard Grieg and Malcolm Arnold (known for his scoring of the famous movie The Bridge on the River Kwai) each wrote distinct music based on traditional dance movements which promise to keep your toes tapping!
