Columbus Day is October 10, and in 2016, the big liquor conglomerates are spreading their tentacles over Mexico in search of the newest, hottest spirit trend - mezcal. How can we as consumers support the spirit that has been made in families over generations? Join us at Astor Center where agave experts have curated a selection of over 30 mezcals from over 20 top producers. This is not your typical tasting - no paid tables, no donated spirits, no white-label non-transparent brands. The mezcals are presented in a way that explains the category and diversity of mezcals from several states in Mexico, all from distillers who are keeping alive the tradition and heritage that makes mezcal so unique and special!
Designed to spark conversation and encourage education about this emerging category that has found its way from the remote hills of Mexico to the glasses of spirit enthusiasts everywhere, this is a unique opportunity to taste through mezcals from Oaxaca, Puebla, San Luis Potosi, Jalisco, Michoacan, Chihuahua, Durango, Guerrero, Sonora, Tamaulipas, and Zacatecas. Our goal is to illustrate the truly diverse nature of agave species and their terroir. In addition to the walk-around tasting room and authentic Mexican snacks, there will be ongoing seminars that explore the deeper culture of mezcal from your home bar and food pairings to its history and production. Early bird tickets are on sale now until the end of September, space is limited.
