FLACC 2016
Piñata Dance Collective presents:
¡¡FLACC! 2016 Festival of Latin American Contemporary Choreographers returns for its 3rd year with all new programming at Dance Mission Theater. Themes such as international adoption, indigenous treaty rights, Latinx Queer identity, immigration, and re-interpreted Latinx traditions uniquely captured within the corporeal surrealism of contemporary dance theater.
This growing and celebrated festival will feature 16 choreographers of Latino and Indigenous diaspora, presented in three varied programs. ¡FLACC!s founder, Liz Duran Boubión, has curated a regenerative platform of resistance in response to recent social and environmental attacks on Latino and Indigenous communities. On each night, ¡FLACC! will celebrate the intersections of gender, sexuality, citizenship and indigeneity among the artists:

Program includes visiting artists: Jose Navarette & Rosa Frazier-Rodriguez/LA, Momentum/Guatemala. Locals: Sebastian Hernandez, Detour Dance, Victor Talledos, Javier Stell-Flésquez.
LAS MUJERES- Saturday 8pm highlights female Chicana/Latina Choreographers including 2 visiting companies: Primera Generación Dance/LA and Momentum/Guatemala. Locals: Diana Lara, Karla Quintero, Juliana Mendoca and Davalos Dance Company.
INDIGENISTAS- Sunday 4pm highlights indigenous/native choreographers. FLACC stands in solidarity with indigenous communities being targeted environmentally in the America's, including the Dakota pipelines. *Each performance will be followed by a panel discussion and refreshments. *Note: LA-based, Primera Generación Dance is showing a different piece each night.
