Mystical Night of Music and Poetry
Back by popular demand after last summer's riveting performance, the Lucid Art Foundation will create a third concert at the Dance Palace Community Center in Point Reyes Station, California. This year we will have an East-West collaboration featuring the guest musician, Banjo virtuoso, Tim Weed, and percussionist and musicians, Sina and Samandar Dehghani. The evening will begin with an invocation of rhythmic drumming by Fariba Bogzaran, who will later recite Rumi poetry and other mystical poetry in Persian and English. This entire performance promises to be an uplifting night of rhythm, improvisation, and poetry. It is dedicated to the protection of Mother Earth.
Musician Biographies Tim Weed is a virtuoso on Banjo. His music has developed into an eclectic blend of bluegrass and world music with stunning harmony vocals, drawing influences from India, Tibet, Africa, and South America. He has appeared on National Public Radio as a featured artist on Bob Boilen's "All Songs Considered." In addition to his own performing and touring, Tim Weed is the artistic director of Sound Orchard, a nonprofit musical arts organization.
Sina Dehghani is known for his innovative style and improvisational mastery on the ancient Persian classical drums: Tombak (wooden drum) and Daf. He studied with prominent Persian master percussionists, such as Bijan Kamkar, Masoud Habibi, and Navid Afghah. Sina has performed in renowned music ensembles in Iran. He has been teaching music for a number of years and currently performs in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the United States.
Samandar Dehghani is a professional musician playing two Persian classical instruments: Tar (string instrument) and Daf (hand drum). He has been playing music from a young age and trained with master musicians in Iran, such as Behrouz Hemmati and Keyvan Saket. He moved to the United States in 2012 and performs regularly in the San Francisco Bay Area and throughout the country. His new album, "Light on Fire," will be released this fall.
Fariba Bogzaran is the cofounder and the creative director of the Lucid Art Foundation. She is a multimedia artist and curator who integrates science, dreams, and rhythm into her art making. In 1989, she developed a cocreative ritual using percussive instruments, which was performed in the San Francisco Bay Area and internationally. Annually, she invites artists to create the "Mystical Night of Music and Poetry."
