RenMen On This Island
Boston is a city well known for its rich Anglo-Celtic heritage. This October, Renaissance Men sets sail on a musical voyage to the British Isles with a highly diverse program honoring time-treasured traditions with a unique Sceitimíní only RenMen can evoke from rarely-heard hymn-lining using 15th century Scottish psalms, to todays rollicking Irish folk songs with our signature RenMen in-house band. Beloved English part songs by Vaughan Williams, Bairstow, and Bantock will precede Benjamin Brittens The Ballad of Little Musgrave and Lady Barnard. We will also highlight championed contemporary Irish and Welsh composers, including Michael McGlynn, Paul Mealor, and Hilary Tann. Folk song selections from England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Isle of Man, Shetland Islands and Guernsey, sung in the traditional Sean-nós style, will bind the program into one continuous concert experience. As a bonus, The Fellas, Boston City Singers young mens ensemble under conductor Daniel P. Ryan, will provide an opening set and will join us in our concert finale. No doubt, you will find RenMen at a local pub after the concert, and we hope you will join us for a pint of your favorite ale and maybe a rousing ballad or two. Sláinte!
