THE LILIES OF THE FIELD adapted to the stage by F. Andrew Leslie
Having decided to travel about the country after his honorable discharge from the Army, staunch Baptist Homer Smith is headed west, stopping here and there for a day's work and wages. Driving through a deserted valley in the Southwest, he encounters a group of East German and Austrian nuns working the dusty fields. His offer to help is quickly accepted. But when it comes to payment, Mother Maria Marthe appears to understand less English. As Homer continues to work in exchange for English lessons, Mother Maria's vision from God of building a chapel soon becomes a reality-- instilling gratitude in the hearts of the nuns and farmers for a man who saw their need and gave unselfishly of himself. The title comes from Matthew 6:27-33, a portion of the Sermon on the Mount in the New Testament and its parallel scripture from Luke 12:27-30. The inspirational comedy/drama features Waypoint regulars Burney Starks (Homer Smith) and Elizabeth von Isser (Mother Maria)with other Waypoint company actors and is directed by Waypoint's artistic director, Melanie David. Running time is 90 minutes plus one intermission. Doors open 1/2 hour prior to performance. Reserved seats held up to 10 minutes before performance, then released.
