TRANSformation: True Stories about Gender Identity and Family
Church of the Village
New York, NY
Share this event:

TRANSformation will be a vibrant evening of storytelling, readings, poetry, and other performances that bring to life the experiences of families dealing with gender identity and that empower these families in their struggle for understanding and full inclusion in their schools and communities. The performance will be the culmination of several months of workshops led by Houses on the Moon Theater Company to draw out the personal stories of members of the community.

This evening will be a benefit for The Bee's Fund and PFLAG NYC, two organizations serving transgender and gender-variant people and their families.

  • BEE'S FUND aids young lesbian, bisexual and trans women, 18-25, who have been rejected by their families. Bee's Fund is administered by the Stonewall Community Foundation and information is found at http://stonewallfoundation.org/grants/scholarships.

  • PFLAG NYC makes life better for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people by keeping families close, making schools safe, and helping kids thrive. Full information on PFLAG NYC programs and services is at http://www.pflagnyc.org.

HOUSES ON THE MOON THEATER COMPANY aims to dispel ignorance and isolation through the theatrical amplification of unheard voices. They have been represented Off Broadway with Tara's Crossing, dealing with asylum for LGBT individuals and internationally with DE NOVO, a play about unaccompanied minors in immigration custody. Their play Building Houses on the Moon has been widely embraced as tool to create safer schools for LGBT youth. More information at http://www.housesonthemoon.org .
