Hot Kitchen/SECOND SHIFT
Hot Kitchen/SECOND SHIFT by Raw Matter explores the dirty depths of domesticity within the nucleus of society, the home. What are the elements that churn the great engines of our economies forward? That spin this cycle? Come watch the dirty laundry pile up as the ugly world of exhibitionism, escapism and reconstruction unfolds. Inspired by the writings of Sylvia Federici, Jean Genet and Sylvia Plath, Hot Kitchen/SECOND SHIFT runs September 23-October 1st at Kensington Hall, 56 Kensington Ave. Toronto. Wake, wet, rinse, repeat. wake, wet, rinse, repeat. wake, wet, rinse, repeat. wake, wet, rinse, repeat. wake, wet, rinse, repeat.
Raw Matter is a hive mind of artists. The present formation is dedicated to creating visually enticing theatre rooted in current social issues. Formed in 2014, Raw Matter first tackled the controversy surrounding the new Ontario Sex Ed curriculum. This year, the project deconstructs reproductive labour in our capitalistic world.
Hot Kitchen/SECOND SHIFT is written, directed, designed and performed by Veronika Brylinska, Nicole De Angelis, Alanna Dunlop and Rebecca Hooton, who are all members of Raw Matter. The cast for this world premiere production also includes associate artist Daniela Pagliarello.
FILAMENT INCUBATOR was founded with the express intent to be a launching pad for underproduced and underrepresented emerging artists, programming them on a consistent, monthly basis in the Queen West Area. Hot Kitchen/SECOND SHIFT is the fourth play in the incubator's eight play season, beginning a commitment to produce 8 original plays in the remaining 8 months of 2016, including queer ghost stories Tire Swing and Swan by Curtis te Brinke and Aaron Jan in October, dark coming of age fable, Paradse Comics by Caitie Graham in November The Incubator is the collective brainchild of Daniel Bagg, Aaron Jan, Andrew Markowiak, and Zach Parkhurst.
