The Civil War Remembered
The Civil War Remembered is a retelling of selected key events and lesser known stories of true heroes during the Civil War era. Mary Todd Lincoln shares her memories with us as shadows of the past come forward to tell their own stories from the Civil War. The show is a mixture of true events and apocryphal stories using actual transcripts from speeches from and articles about this time period. Music from the 1860s is interspersed throughout the show.
Suitable for ages 12 and above.
AUTHOR/DIRECTOR
M.L. OCONNELL studied directing at Florida State University under Richard G. Fallon and Peter J. Saputo. While living in Madrid, Spain, Ms. OConnell authored a new adaptation of Spoon River Anthology titled Spoon River: An American Heritage, which played to sold-out crowds at the American Cultural Center. While living in Spain, she collaborated with several local singer-musician-composers and created English-language inserts for their albums. She also adapted and directed Kahlil Gibrans Jesus Son of Man for a church-based interfaith youth group at Torrejon Air Base, just outside of Madrid. She was active with theatrical groups at both the American Cultural Center and the British Consulate in Madrid. She is presently working on two original scripts dealing with the life of Abraham Lincoln. My most admired role models who inform me are John Huston, who said Half of directing is casting the right actors, and John Ford, who said You can speak well if your tongue can deliver the message of your heart.
