Mindfulness and Young Children
Mindfulness: The awareness that emerges through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally to the unfolding of experience moment by moment.  Jon Kabat-Zinn

Mindfulness is more than just the latest fad sweeping the nation. As a practice, it has been around for thousands of years, but now the latest research in neuroscience has uncovered quantitative evidence of its positive effects on the brain. How can we as teacher-researchers infuse our learning communities with mindfulness practices that will enable children to draw upon their natural ability to be in the present moment? How can developing a personal mindfulness practice enrich our ability to be more fully present with our children? How does mindfulness, or the lack thereof, impact our image of the child? How can each member of our learning communities use mindfulness practices to respond to the daily stresses of life rather than simply react?These questions, and more, will be explored at this Gathering of theReggio-Inspired Network of Minnesota.
