Amy D'Apice Presents Kindred Spaces: The Performance

In recent travels through superficially disparate East-West locales, the artist, writer, and performer Amy D'Apice found herself fascinated by common visual motifs. Decay, change, renewal, loneliness, and connectedness occurred in the geometry of people and landscapes everywhere, particularly in the spaces that are usually overlooked: dark alleys, backsides of buildings, teeming marketplaces, slums, and nature on the loose.

From Camden, New Jersey to Montisi, Italy, to Chiang Mai, Thailand, D'Apice sketched obsessively, picking at a global visual thread. Enviro-cultural commonalities were no accident. But how could a self-described vagabond sketcher, with a backpack as a studio, organize her perceptions into a cohesive, meaningful artistic commentary? The answer was to be still and get to work.

From September 2 - October 2, 2016, Bainbridge Arts & Crafts presents "Kindred Spaces," Amys resulting exhibition of more than 30 new paintings that poignantly, vibrantly celebrate "same same, but different," the expression in Southeast Asia which encompasses variations on a theme, commonality with a nod to uniqueness.

A melding of visual art, music, and high-energy theater, the companion presentation, Kindred Spaces: The Performance, will pull you into the cultures and locales that this funny, irreverent, and enormously talented artist has traveled for so long.
