The Tacoma Branch of The Mountaineers presents an evening with Jim Lynch, author of the book "Before the Wind". Set on the Salish Sea, the book hops from racing dinghy to boat yard to big boat racecourse in a string of events all local sailors will relate to, culminating in the Johannssen family's entry in the Swiftsure classic.
From Practical Sailor's review; "Based in the Pacific Northwest, the narrative is told from the perspective of Joshua Johannssen, who has been surrounded by sailboats all of his life....Gracefully navigating between past and present, Lynch charts the changing tides of the Johannssen family. Before the Wind, a cautionary tale of obsession and its price, is one of those impossible-to-put-down books that make ideal summer reading."
