Tapestry of Song - Medieval & Renaissance Songs & Dances with Shira Kammen and Peter Maund
From the "Second Sundays" Concerts at the SF Swedenborgian Church, Shira Kammen and Peter Maund take us on a musical romp through Iberian, French, Italian and English Renaissance and Medieval melodies, based on troubadour pieces and cantigas, including original arrangements and compositions.
Multi-instrumentalist Shira Kammen has spent most of her life exploring early and traditional music. She has regularly performed with many notable ensembles and organizations, including Ensemble Alcatraz, Project Ars Nova, the Boston Camerata, the Newberry and Folger Consorts, as well as the Oregon, California and San Francisco Shakespeare Festival. She has also collaborated with the California Revels, and The American Repertory Ballet Company. Shira has also taught workshops and seminars at Yale University, Case Western and the Fondazione Cini in Venice, Italy as well as the Scuola Cantorum Basilensis in Switzerland. Her spellbinding original compositions have also been featured in movie and gaming soundtracks.
Peter Maund is a San Francisco native who studied percussion at the SF Conservatory of Music, and folklore and ethnomusicology at UC Berkeley. He was a founding member of Ensemble Alcatraz and Skyedance, as well as performing with numerous early and contemporary music ensembles including Berkeley Contemporary Chamber Players, Chanticleer, Musica Pacifica (see August 14th) and the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and Voices of Music. Peter has performed at numerous top venues around the world including Carnegie Hall, Edinburgh Festival, Horizante Orient Okzident (Berlin), The Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center Palacio Congresos (Madrid), and Queen Elizabeth Hall (London) to name just a few. He can be heard on over 50 recordings.
