MARCH IN THE PARADE
When you are 8 or 9 years old, what could be more fun than decorating your bike so you can ride side by side with your best friend in the annual Fourth of July parade? What if, you lose your best friend because in a fit of anger you tell her that you hate her. What would you do? Joey, a white boy, has got an even bigger problem. He told his best friend Antoinette, a black girl, that he hated all black people, too!
March in the Parade: A Play with Music for Young Audiences, is a 1-hour interactive theatrical experience, that entertains as well as teaches. Sensitively written by Edward Versailles, with fun jazzy songs by Harvey Kaiser and Edward Versailles, directed by AnnChris Warren, with a cast of 6 dynamic actor-singers, it is a family event that raises social awareness and will leave the youngsters (and the oldsters, too) asking themselves, How do I make life better in a racially diverse society?
For many families, talking with your kids about racism in America is difficult. Its so complicated! And yet, the issue demands our attention. March in the Parade is a fun way to get those young minds activated. Perfect for kids aged 6 to 12--and their parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and caretakers.
