DOGFIGHT the musical
Written by Broadways hottest new composer team, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul (Edges, James and the Giant Peach, A Christmas Story, NBCs Smash) Dogfight is based on the film of the same name that starred River Phoenix and Lili Taylor. The Off-Broadway musical received raves from the critics and the prestigious 2013 Lucille Lortell award for Best Musical.
The date is November 21, 1963. For a group of Marines fresh out of boot camp, its the day before their lives will change forever as they are about to ship off to a small, little-known conflict in Southeast Asias Vietnam. For the rest of the world, its the last date of innocence as the following day is the day the world changed forever with the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
A tradition the Marines have practiced for years is known as a Dogfight, where the boys throw some money in the pot and then have two hours to find the ugliest girl they can for the party. Things dont go quite as planned for Eddie Birdlace (Adam Munoz Godspell) when he brings Rose Fenney (ATP newcomer Alycia Cornwell) to the festivities that are destined for heartbreak. But Rose surprises Eddie (and herself) by rewriting the rules of the game and teaches him the power of love and compassion.
Joining Eddie for the night of debauchery are Boland (Makenzie McClure) and Bernstein (Owen Ziegler), together forming the Three Bees. Other Marines are Gibbs (Mike De Anda), Fector (Nathan Daniel Ford), and Stevens (Dylan Tacker).
Laura Galt has been cast as Roses mother and Pete Muñoz (Corpus Christi) will be seen as the Lounge Singer. Joining the Marines for the evening is the crafty and cunning prostitute Marcy (Danielle Ruth The Rocky Horror Show) and Ruth Two Bear (Lariena Armstong Brown S Gershwin). The ensemble is rounded out with Emily Haynes and Meghan Ollivant (Godspell).
Dogfight is directed, designed, and choreographed by Joshua Denning. ATP Artistic Director David Blackburn, also serves as the music director/conductor for the show. Lighting design is by James Jennings with sound design by Jeff Miller. Costumes are designed by Veronica Prior.
