CRUZIN'-Tony Cruz and Pro Cyclists Tour Vietnam by Bike
CRUZIN' is a feature-length documentary that chronicles a 12-day, 1000-mile bike ride in Vietnam from north to south. The movie focuses on Olympic cyclist, Tony Cruz and 14 of his friends and bike enthusiasts. It was considered one of the most rigorous leisure rides with steep climbs and massive rollers. This is an entirely experiential film: the cameras are always on the athletes with minimal interviews from the locals. The idea was to depict the camaraderie between friends and how they deal with challenges on foreign terrain during their ride. The main goal is to make the audience feel as if they were on the same journey as Tony and his friends. We welcome you to the exciting and challenging world of cycling!
Southeast Asia, particularly Vietnam has become the premiere place for tourists to congregate due to its geographic expansion, beautiful, untouched scenery and booming economy. Our intention was to capture the experience of a long bike ride through unknown geography, creating an exciting adventure for both the cyclists and the audience.
Vietnam for a long time was closed to outsiders due to its political struggles and war torn history. In recent years, the country opened up to tourism and foreign investments allowing specifically for outdoor enthusiasts to enjoy its natural environs and unique cultures. Part of the ride, was along the Ho Chi Minh Highway, which historically was the path for the final invasion of South Vietnam by the Northern regime. The cyclists had a chance to pursue their biking passion and at the same time experience and relive the road from North to South, as experienced by the Vietnamese troops during the 1970s.
