ProyectoTEATRO, Austins leading Spanish-language Performing Arts Company and current resident at the ESB Mexican-American Cultural Center, is proud to present Josh Inocéncio in the Texas premiere of Ojos Violetas (Purple Eyes). This ancestral autobiography performance explores the intersections of queerness and Chicano/a identity as well as machismo in Mexican families. Latino culture, with its strong religious influences, tends to stray away from conversations about sexual orientation and in fact ignores the issue all together. In a time when the definition of gender, family, and individuality are shifting, Purple Eyes bravely explores situations and conversations we know exist, but prefer not to challenge.
