American Contemporary Ballet: MUSIC+DANCE:LA II - Adamiana
Thursday, August 11 - 8pm* Friday, August 12 - 8pm Saturday, August 13 - 6pm & 8pm Sunday, August 14 - 2pm & 4pm
Adolphe Adam, despite being the composer of one of the greatest ballets in history, may still be the best-kept secret in ballet.
After Giselle, the most famous ballet of the Romantic era, Adam wrote ballet music that equaled and surpassed it. But most of this music has gone largely unheard since the 19th century. (However, Adam is also responsible for one of the most heard compositions since that time, the Christmas carol O Holy Night.)
On August 11th, American Contemporary Ballet premieres an all-new ballet, Adamiana, featuring some of Adams best and least heard music, from his ballets The Fairies God-daughter and The Pretty Girl from Ghent, with all-new choreography from ACB's artistic director, Lincoln Jones.
