Western Massachusetts native Mikey Sweet finishes up Tuesdays this month with the official release of his newest CD. Joining in will be PHILIP PRICE of the fantastic band WINTERPILLS (solo) and the artsy psychedelic folk of Brooklyn's WORKMAN SONG.
Mikey Sweet grew up in the in the foot hills of Western Massachusetts. His Father was a musician who played Dylan tunes in local bars. His Mother raised him, herself. At fifteen, Michael quit school and hit the road. He became all too familiar with the ways of the rambler. He picked up a guitar and taught himself how to pick. He learned to sing on sidewalks, subways, and interstate on-ramps. Michael is a songwriter. He came to the conclusion early on that, life is just a collection of stories, and we might as well make them our own. As a songwriter he has been described as a haunting fingerprint of the young, lost traveler of the American landscape; hanging on with his life, to a string of hope that lies just one more mile marker away. His major influences have been singers and writers such as Towns Van Zandt, Bob Dylan, and Amos Lee to name a few. Michael currently resides back in Western Massachusetts writing, performing and recording his music.
WORKMAN SONG Art folk-rock storyteller Workman Song a.k.a. Brooklyn via W. Mass meta-hippie Sean McMahon is best known for the lazy conviction of his psychedelically spiritual gospel ditties and the heights and depths of his trademark Rodriguez-by-way-of-Buckley tenor. Hailed as the unrelenting local force behind a sound that transcends anything currently in the New York music scene, McMahon has watered his fanbase with revivalistic, off-beat performances (backed by The Highway, featuring younger brother Griffin "#MistaEntertainment" McMahon) whilst sharing bills with luminaries Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger, Rubblebucket, and Streets of Laredo.
PHILIP PRICE Philip Price is the frontman for Northampton's venerable acoustic rock band Winterpills. Tonight he performs his unique brand of melancholic songs in a space that seems tailor made for his music the warm an intimate red glow of The Lizard Lounge.
