Phaeton
This new play follows the story of Phaeton and his mortal mother braving impossible odds. Dire circumstances bring him face to face with his father, a god. Even more dire are the consequences.
Phaeton explores the distance between who we are, who we think we are, and who we can be. In this space lies the conflictthe inescapable and universal strugglebetween the mundane and the divine, between complacency and hope, between fear and action.
How far would you go to renew the world?
The Taffety Punks once again brilliantly fuse acting, dance, and music to create an exhilarating world for this brand new classical Greek play that dares to ask why we destroy our visionaries.
Phaeton is directed by our very own Marcus Kyd, whose previous movement theatre projects include our highly lauded productions of Shakespeares The Rape of Lucrece and Taffety Punks original dance-play suicide.chat.room (with music by Beauty Pill). In full Taffety Punk style, the actors of Phaeton navigate the story through the unorthodox music of Josh Taylor (ex-Jupiter Rex) with stunning choreography by Kelly King of Contradiction Dance.
Phaeton stars Taffety Punk company members Dan Crane and Kimberly Gilbert, with James Flanagan in the title role, and guest artists Terence Aselford, Audrey Bertaux, Joe Brack, Julia Brandeberry, Karin Rosnizeck, Dawn Thomas, and Eva Wilhelm.
