Giants of Gypsy Jazz: Stephane Wrembel
Stephane Wrembel returns to Northfield as part of his next Midwest tour and will perform in concert with his band at the Northfield Arts Guild Theater on May 18, 2016 at 7:30 PM. Last May, Wrembel thrilled a sold out crowd as the grand finale performance of the 2015 Northfield Gypsy Jazz Jam Series. Don't miss this chance to see him in the intimate Northfield Arts Guild Theater.
Two tiers of tickets available:
- General Admission ($25) - general seating 30 min. prior to show
- Premium Tickets ($45) - front section seating, pre-show "meet the artists" reception and free pass to the fall 2016 Midwest Gypsy Swing Fest in Madison, WI on Sept 9-10.
French-born, Brooklyn-based guitarist Stephane Wrembel is known for his impeccable technique and continuously evolving musicianship. But unlike many other masters of the gypsy jazz genre, Wrembel has gone on to craft his own approach, blending a deep understanding of rock, jazz and classical traditions into a sound that is all his own. Rolling Stone Magazine has called him a revelation. Woody Allen recruited him to score the theme for the smash film Midnight in Paris, and he performed the irresistibly catchy original song, Bistro Fada, live during the 2012 Academy Awards. He has headlined at Lincoln Center, played major festivals, recorded with mandolin legend David Grisman, toured with master violinist Mark OConnor and shared stages with everyone from Elvis Costello to Patti Smith to The Roots. To say that Stephane Wrembel who learned his craft among the Gypsies at campsites in the French countryside has already had a remarkable career would be an under-statement. This virtuoso guitarist from France has truly just begun to make his mark as one of the most original guitar voices in contemporary music.
