Unsung Heroes: A Musical Celebration of our Elder Farmers
Concert To Celebrate Elder Farmers
Rosendale, NYOn April 24th, from 3 to 6 pm, SageArts, in collaboration with the Rondout Valley Growers Association (RVGA), will host a benefit concert to celebrate in song the Unsung Heroes: Celebrating Our Elder Farmers. SageArts is an intergenerational arts project that encourages social inclusion and dignity for elders in the Hudson Valley. It brings together songwriters and elders from local communities to collaboratively write an original song about the elders life. The RVGA is a grass roots organization of farmers and neighbors working together to keep local farming strong.
Songwriters/Performers will include Heather Masse, Tom Holland, Mark Brown, Kelleigh McKenzie and Vickie Russell who have originated songs about the lives of Elder Farmers Jack Schoonmaker, Wayne Kelder, Frank Coddington, Bill Wilklow, Abe Waruch, Jackie Brooks and Rima Nickell. Concert Director will be Ralph Legnini. Rondout High School students will contribute artistically to the concert by singing and creating a set for the stage, and volunteering.
The concert will be a celebration of the tradition of farming in the Hudson Valley that dates back to the 1600s by Dutch, French and German settlers. Farming greatly increases the quality of life in the Hudson Valley and is an important economic engine for the local area and NY state as a whole.
The concert will be held at the Rondout Valley High School Auditorium, 122 Kyserike Road, in Accord , NY.
Sponsors of the concert include Arts Mid-Hudson, Ulster County Department of Tourism and I Love NY, and Ulster Savings Bank.
