Shine the Light
Rotary Club of Kamloops & Royal Inland Hospital Foundation Present: Shine the Light Fundraising and Awareness for 1 South & Mental Health
Featuring Margaret Trudeau as Keynote Speaker
A breakfast event held April 13, 2016:
The mental health unit at Royal Inland Hospital cares for patients from all walks of life, within our Kamloops community and outlying areas. It is situated in an older part of the hospital and although the unit needs some upgrading, the care that is given there each day is remarkable.
Its time to give this critical unit at RIH the attention it deserves. Many patients spend days or even weeks in 1 South. With your support, we will renovate the common area, where patients and their families spend time reading, exercising, and visiting. Providing patients with some of the comforts of home is so important for their healing and well-being.
The staff in 1 South care deeply about their patients and their families. They know that mental illness can be complex. They are faced with some tough days. But they see amazing stories of healing, and help patients celebrate what they overcome here each and every day.
The Need: The 1 South Department could greatly benefit from the following: - Proper lighting; - A renovated common area, including a kitchen and personal space to accomplish a puzzle or listen to music; - An improved outdoor area that would accommodate all patients, rather than just the few it does currently; - Comfort items for patients to enjoy while receiving treatment; - Improved ambience and environment conducive to healing - Updated exercise equipment, library, and personal care items
