RAISE the BARN
Feast Down East hosts Wilmington's premier gourmet farm-to-fork event of the year, with food prepared by locally-renowned chefs. RAISE THE BARN is the third annual Feast Down East farm dinner and benefit, supporting local farms and fisheries through the organization's mission to "grow our local food system". The event will take place on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 6-10pm on the picturesque grounds of the New Hanover County Arboretum at 6206 Oleander Drive in Wilmington.
Raise the Barn will feature a tapas-style gourmet dinner using locally grown and raised ingredients sourced through Feast Down East's food hub or directly through area farms and fisheries. A wide variety of dishes will be presented by chefs from 22 North, Catch, Ceviche's, Chef and the Farmer, Hops Supply Co., manna, PinPoint Restaurant, Plantation Village, Rx Restaurant and Bar, Surf House, and UNCW Campus Dining. There will also be desserts from area restaurants and an open bar featuring local beer and wine, plus a specialty cocktail - Carolina Bourbon infused with Newberry's Blueberries.
Stroll the grounds of the arboretum and enjoy the spectacular food, dancing and other activities taking place throughout the evening, while listening to the music of popular local band L Shape Lot. This elegant yet comfortable affair begins with a cocktail hour, followed by a feast of locally-sourced gourmet creations. In addition, there will be a silent auction, corn hole and more! A unique opportunity to meet both farmers and chefs at the forefront of our local food movement, Raise the Barn is an experience to remember and the most fun you will ever have at a benefit gala. The event sold out quickly last year and received rave reviews, so get your tickets before it's too late! Proceeds benefit the nonprofit work of Feast Down East, connecting small-scale farms to local markets and improving access to healthy foods in underserved communities. This year, Feast Down East is highlighting its Healthy Communities Program, which aims to advance food security in low-income neighborhoods through the distribution of affordable, fresh produce, community gardens, and healthy cooking classes.
