Atwood's 10th Anniversary feat. Roy Sludge Trio plus Jimmy Ryan & Hayride
Atwood's Tavern is turning 10 so we're throwing a week long party with some of our favorite musicians.
Roy Sludge plays classic country and rockabilly music with a heaping helping of humor thrown in. With a deep, rumbling voice reminiscent of Jr. Brown or Ernest Tubb and his biting sense of humor, Roy's been entertaining roots music fans for over 3 decades. Roy's debut CD "Too Drunk To Truck" released in 2011 features Duke Levine (Mary Chapin Carpenter, J. Geils Band, Peter Wolf) on electric guitar, Kevin Barry (Ray LaMontagne, Emmy Lou Harris) on lap steel and Jim Haggerty on bass.
For those who like their pigeonholes neat and tidy, Jimmy Ryan is an unsettling proposition. He plays mandolin with the old-timey pluck of a bluegrass breakdown, but he also plays it with the ferocity of a rock guitarist. That melding of styles made Ryan a pioneer of the so-called alt-country scene in the late 80s when he founded and fronted the bluegrass-tinged rock band The Blood Oranges. The same eclectic approach makes him one of the most dynamic singer-songwriters on todays rich Boston Americana scene.
