Mondegreens + Thousands
Doors 730 Show 8 All Ages
The Mondegreens is a rock group based in Seattle, WA churning out a new take on California Soul: songbased rock & roll, infused with R&B, psychedelia, and folk. With an infectious, harmony-driven sound that combines the raw passion of The Avett Brothers with the diverse soundscapes of Grizzly Bear, their soughtafter live shows can run from dusty, shambling Americana to bright and modern in a single set. Before nestling into the Pacific Northwest in 2015, The Mondegreens spent three years forging solid bonds with audiences and refining their live performances across the western U.S. The boys toured constantly, playing strings of shows that invariably included the entire West Coast, but also extended as far as Austin, TX and Denver, CO. California valley natives, Jack Knight (guitar/vocals), Russell Rabut (guitar/vocals), and David Friedlander (bass/vocals), began collaborating in 2007, coming together around roots music, vocal harmony, and songwriting. Scotty Jenkins (percussion) was recruited prior to their 2015 tour to Austins SXSW, completing their current lineup. As at ease at an intimate house concert as they are on a festival stage, The Mondegreens continue to capture the attention of audiences of all ages, shapes, and sizes.
Thousands is the primary outlet for music written by Kristian Garrard, resident of Bothell, WA. The current other members of the band are: Abbey Blackwell - Bass Ronan Delisle - Guitar Evan Woodle - Drums A little history though, Thousands started back in 2006 as a collaboration between Kristian Garrard and Luke Bergman. We both played acoustic guitars and Luke sang nice harmonies. We lived together and played millions of unpublicized house/rooftop/alley shows around Seattle for a number of years. Around 2009 or so we decided to start recording the tunes, and made a record recorded outdoors, all over the state of Washington and a little bit in Oregon. We called the record The Sound Of Everything. It was released by Bella Union in 2011 after our music was kindly shared with them by our friends in the Fleet Foxes. We got a little bit of press and did a lot of touring after that around the US and in Europe, but the funds ran out pretty fast and we were back home with nothing to do six months later. During the time of touring for The Sound Of Everything, we were working on a new set of songs, inspired by a tidbit of Garrard family history Kristians aunt had uncovered, concerning a man who built a castle on a rocky island he called Dream Isle. We recorded all the tracks for our second record in Kristians basement, a little cleaner approach than our first album. We got our buddy Karl Blau to mix the record, using all the amazing gear down at Dub Narcotic Studio. We self released Dream Isle in 2013 online, due to not having any money for a physical release.Check it out here. Next up, I started to worry about pigeon-holing myself into being known as just a soft, acoustic band, so the Thousands rock band was born. With a new set of material and a few more members in tow (Aaron Otheim on piano and Evan Woodle on drums), we went into The Unknown in Anacortes, WA with Trevor Spencer engineering and recorded a third album, titledKnew You In Your Youth, which was released (finally) on 1/8/2016 via Bandcamp, Itunes, Spotify, etc etc. The rock band format didnt last too long as a live group, and we were fairly inactive for 2014-15, kind of low spirits, feeling a little uninspired, but recently the band has reformed with some personnel changes and a bunch of new material, bringing in Abbey Blackwell on bass and Ronan Delisle on guitar, and were starting to play out more, with plans to record a new albums worth of music soon.
