DESIRE WILL SET YOU FREE - Philly Premiere
Cinedelphia Film Festival presents DESIRE WILL SET YOU FREE (Philadelphia Premiere) (2015, 92 min, Dir. Yony Leyser)
A hedonistic journey through Berlins modern queer underground featuring appearances from Nina Hagen, Peaches, and Einstuerzende Neubauten.
A young American writer of Palestinian and Israeli parentage falls for a Russian hustler and introduces him to the citys alternative hotspots where he is taught about the lingering remnants of WWII, the Weimar Republic, Bowie, and the party kids of today. Much like taking a drug itself, the line between reality and desire is blurred in the land of excess.
Filmed entirely in Berlin, the film uses the venues and performance locations typical of local performers. Performers include "Godmother of Punk" Nina Hagen, cult musician and performance artist Peaches, pioneer of Queer Cinema Rosa von Praunheim, R&B and electronic artist Blood Orange, and industrial legends Einsturzende Neubauten. Desire Will Set You Free is a story of young people discovering themselves in the neon-tinged glow of the night, emerging from the darkness to mold the world into the shape of their desires.
