PRINCE CHARLES ANDTHE CITY BEAT BAND - plays with START OF DREAMS
SHORT FILM Known as the "Bad Boys Of Funk" Prince Charles and The City Beat Band created an imagery of the streets that proceeded today's Hip Hop and Rap. First generation clones of the Parliament/Funkadelics, this band from Roxbury/Boston, MA, led by musician/producer Charles Alexander and producer/manager Tony Rose produced some of the finest funk music ever released. Beginning in 1979 on Rose's independent label, Solid Platinum Records and Productions, through the cassette only release of their second album "Stone Killers" on ROIR, straight to their worldwide signing with Virgin Records in 1983, becoming the first African American owned label to sign a production deal with Virgin Records. Continuing on for five more years, touring, releasing albums and having enormous success in Europe, Canada and Asia, with a heavy cult status in America, their first three albums, "Gang War", "Stone Killers' and "Combat Zone" on Virgin Records, were a sign of the times and of the things to come.
