NPR Music World Premiere: Philip Glass' 'The New Rules'
UPDATE 6/21!!

Hello friends!

Today's the day! The WORLD PREMIERE of the NPR Music commissioned THE NEW RULE by composer Philip Glass will take place in NYC's Times Square.

We are excited and pleased that so many of you have signed on to join us to sing along.

Yes, it will be hot, but c'mon, when will you ever have the chance to sing with your fellow New Yorkers in Times Square again?

As a reminder, we ask that all singers arrive between 6:15pm-6:30pm LATEST, warmed up and ready to sing! We will sort you by the 4 vocal types for the program (alto, soprano, bass, and tenor).

Father Duffy Square is located at Broadway at 46th Street, right next to the TKTS booth.

We are planning to begin the first run through of THE NEW RULE World Premiere right around 6:35pm, and then we will segue into some works by Bruckner, Mozart, Handel and Bach. We'll end with one more performance of THE NEW RULE.

To download all of the sheet music for the event, please head over to
http://makemusicny.org/schedule/#!/feature/mass-appeal-mass

If you can print it out, please bring a copy of the sheet music for your use. Also bring some water to keep hydrated as well as to keep those vocal cords nice and moist!

See you soon!

NPR Music and Make Music New York are inviting you -- amateur and professional singers alike -- to participate in the world premiere of a new choral arrangement from world-famous composer Philip Glass on June 21st, 2012 at 6:30 PM in Times Square.

Glass's short piece is called "The New Rule" and features text by the medieval Sufi poet Rumi. The SATB choral arrangement is adapted from material from the composer's 1997 "digital opera" Monsters of Grace. Conductor Kent Tritle, one of America's leading choral conductors, will lead the singers.

To participate, just click on the score at www.npr.org/blogs/deceptivecadence/2012/05/11/152517919/come-sing-in-a-philip-glass-world-premiere-in-times-square to access and download "The New Rule."

Learn the music in the coming weeks, and then on June 21st, meet us in Father Duffy Square (the northern triangle of New York's iconic Times Square) for the performance. Arrive warmed up and ready to sing  and we hope to see you there!
