EVENT SUMMARY

We are excited to welcome Nick Donatiello, a popular teacher among both MBA and MSx students at Stanford University Graduate School of Business (GSB) and a recognized expert in board service and governance. Serving on boards, both for-profit and non-profit, is a fantastic way to serve your community, broaden your professional network, and build your career. Come hear Nick Donatiello, Stanford MBA '86, discuss recent research findings on the lessons that non-profit and for-profit boards can learn from each other. Nick will also address the challenges and rewards of serving on boards, and how to get on boards.    

SPEAKER DETAILS

Nick Donatiello is President and CEO of San Francisco-based Odyssey, a leader in understanding how technology changes consumer media use habits. An accomplished writer and speaker, he has appeared at a wide variety of new media conferences including principal speaking roles at Agenda, Spotlight, TED, and the annual meeting of the Association of National Advertisers. Widely quoted as an expert on consumers and media, Nick was named by Newsweek as one of the "50 People Who Matter Most on the Internet" and has been profiled in Wired magazine. He is a recognized governance expert and his writings on the subject have been published in numerous outlets, including The Wall Street Journal. He serves on the boards of directors of the following:

- Dolby Laboratories (NYSE: DLB), where he chairs the Compensation Committee and sits on the Nominating and Governance and Technology Strategy Committees
- Big 5 Sporting Goods (NASDAQ: BGFV), where he serves on the Nominating and Governance Committee
- Three of the American Funds managed by Capital Research and Management (EuroPacific Growth Fund, New Perspective Fund, and New World Fund), which together have roughly $250 billion under management; he became Chairman of the Board of these funds in January 2016, prior to which he chaired the Nominating and Governance Committee
- Schwab Charitable Fund, one of the nation's largest grant-making charities, granting more than $1 billion to charities annually, where he serves on the Investment Oversight Committee and Chairs the Compensation Committee.
- From 2001-2008 he served on the board of KQED, Inc., serving as Chairman of the Board his last three years.

Nick has been a Lecturer at the Stanford GSB since 2012, co-teaching courses in Board Governance and Corporate Governance and lecturing to all first-year MBA and all MSx students as part of the financial accounting curriculum. He earned his undergraduate degree in engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from Stanford.
