Just For A Moment
Just For A Moment is the story Of David Phillips an aspiring painter who leaves his Island home and His fiancée Monique Wilson and travel to Toronto to follow his dream of becoming a world Renown Painter. He arrives in the cold North with a pocketful of dreams and a head full of hope. Soon the reality of North American life hits him and he struggle to make ends meet. In his despair he fails to keep in touch with Monique, citing that he could not find the words to explain his predicament.
15 years has passed and he is home with his first art exhibition and a burning desire to see Monique. In His Words: "I have to; she haunts me."
Playing the roles of David and Monique are two of Toronto finest Thespians.
David Philips is played by Rais Muoi . Born in Nairobi Kenya. Muoi has practiced theatre throughout his life, embracing the tenets of African Theatre Storytelling, music, dance, poetry clown and more. He has graced the Toronto stage in many productions including: I Marcus Garvey, he played multiple roles in that production. He also appeared as a soldier in Obsidian's theatre production Of Ruined at Canstage. He was a member of the cast of Expect Theatres' production Awake at the Toronto Fringe and Next Stage Festivals. Muoi also spent some time working as the Artistic Director of The African Theatre Ensemble.
Nawa Nicole Simon is a Dora Nominated Actress who has been seen on the Toronto stage in many productions including Little Red Theatre Production of Darkness And The Butterfly and Tales Of Anansi and the Spider. Hart House The Whole Dip. She performed In Umoja at the Elgin Theatre. Danced with Can Afric Theatre in Quebec City.
She has toured with Mixed Company Theatre and Expect Theatre. Worked with Mad Science Production in Florida. She was nominated for a Dora for her work in New Harlem Theatre Production Gas Girls
Things Falling Apart Theatre was created in 2013 and had its' inaugural production The Session Written and Directed by Tien Providence and Featuring Joella Crichton in November of that year. Things Falling Apart is theatre company is a collaborative of artists who want produce works of African Caribbean Canadian writers who are looking to populate the stages across Toronto and beyond. The Founders include Malinda Francis and Tien Providence.
Malinda is a experience in the art includes primarily a filmmaker, editor, and radio host. Her First aim is to collaborate with as many artists, musicians, djs, alternative, educators, community builders that is physically possible, and her second aim is to create and build new collaborative and collective structures to better enable independent artists to work and profit together off there own work, her aim is to support independent art across disciplines.
