Walk Hard
With talent and ambition, Andy Whitman rises from shoeshine boy to lightweight contender, grasping at a freedom he has only dreamed of. But his fight takes him farther and farther from the family that loves him, and at every turn he comes up hard against walls of injustice and exploitation. First produced in 1944, Abram Hill's Walk Hard is a defining story of the struggle for a young black man to overcome barriers around him and rage within. A hit on Broadway in 1946, the play has not been revived in New York since.
