I Don't Even Own a Television, a podcast about bad books, will tape its 50th episode LIVE! Your hosts J. W. Friedman and Chris Collision will bring their usual grumpy humor and catchy songs to a dissection of the novelization of Star Wars: The Force Awakens!
I Don't Even Own a Television was voted one of the top 10 podcasts of 2015 by readers of the Onion's A.V. Club. The podcast's creator, J. W. Friedman, is a comedian and musician who has performed in a ton of bands and now releases music mainly as Satellite High. He lives in San Francisco and knows more about the Giants, pro wrestling, and hardcore than just about anybody living or dead. Co-host Chris Collision is a writer and retired bass player who enjoys beer, bikes, mezcal, and bagging on bad books.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a lengthy toy commercial designed to keep certain intellectual property viably profitable for a large media company based in California. To date, it has sold a lot of movie tickets and cheap plastic toys. It has also caused legendary novelization workhorse Alan Dean Foster to spend a few days cranking out a suitable-for-purchase novel-like object, which will come under scrutiny at this live event.
The show will include the following segments: Plot in 60 Seconds -- explaining just what this book's about Dramatic Readings -- your hosts and select audience members performing choice passages What Is Your Fave? -- curated elements of the book presented and voted on to determine favorites What Would They Do? -- characters from the book, facing dilemmas and hard choices Russian Roulette -- random selections from the book, performed And much more!
