It's a BOUT Time
The fast and fabulous wheeled women of the Naptown Roller Girls are set to take on the Kalamazoo Kamikaze Roller Girls from Michigankicking off the second full season for Indy's own flat-track roller derby team.
The Tornado Sirens, the competing roller derby team for Indy's Naptown Roller Girls league, is made up of 14 ladies who go by monikers such as Mizz Understood, Joan of Dark and 4 Leaf Cleaver. These gals have to prove their athleticism and skill each month to make the team for each bout, so that they're prepared for the war of wills that takes place on the track.
With a first-season record of 6 wins and 2 losses, The Tornado Sirens and the Naptown Roller Girls league is proving to Indianapolis and the world that roller derby isn't just a bunch of fights and flash; it's the coolest sport there ever was for women, specifically for these Indianapolis women who proudly wield their wheels in a game that requires not just sweat, but stamina and stealth.
Formed in 2006, The Naptown Roller Girls are members of the Women's Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), the national governing body for women's amateur flat track roller derby in the U.S. WFTDA member leagues engage in sanctioned interleague play, including regional and national tournaments. Our ladies have collected bruises, torn tendons, dislocated shoulders and broken bones to bring roller derby in all its grit and glory to the Indianapolis area.
