Directed by Louanne Moldovan with a stellar design team including Jeff Forbes, Marychris Mass, Sharath Patel and Tim Stapleton, and featuring the powerhouse cast of Don Alder, Bobby Bermea, Hank Cartwright, David Meyers, Ted Schulz, Jamie Rea, Michael Teufel, Steve Vanderzee and Jonah Weston as well as notable jazz musician Adrian Baxter.
"The Set-Up" is a tale of savagery and betrayal, told in verse and music. It is the story of Pansy Jones, a tough, smart, small-time contender with big-time heart who on top of fighting for recognition in the boxing ring, had to fight for recognition as a man. For it is 1928 America, and Pansy Jones is a black man. "The Set-Up" takes the audience on a journey through the shady underbelly of the New York boxing world in the 1920s. It is Pansy Jones, a character of physical power, determination, and innate dignity, whose tragic journey is at the heart of this gritty, rhyming epic.
