Event
Mole Mount Taxidermy Workshop with Katie Innamorato
Date: Sunday, February 7th Time: 12pm-6pm Admission: $250
EXPERIENCE LEVEL-Beginner to Intermediate
Limited class size of 10 people
This class will introduce students to the process and techniques behind basic small mammal taxidermy. Students will learn how to skin, prep, preserve, mount, and position the animal. Since moles have fleshy little paws we will be injecting them with preservative as well. Basic armatures will be created and used, and students will learn how to carve head forms. Dry preservation methods will be used in class, but tanning will be discussed and walked through. Students are encouraged to bring in any small props they may want to dress the animal up in. All specimens, materials, and tools for the class and provided. Each student will leave with his or her own finished mount.
We use NO harsh or dangerous chemicals. Everyone will be provided with gloves. All animals are disease free. Bringing a snack and drink is encouraged. Please bring your own boxes/bags to carry mounts home.
Animals are sourced through roadkill, scraps from other taxidermists, donations, abatement/nuisance work, pet industry casualties, frozen feeders, and discards from the food service industry. Nothing is ever killed specifically for our classes.
