Best of Bop City : Celebrating the Music of Miles - Live at the Black Hawk
June 3, Sunday Music of Miles: Live at the Black Hawk Miles' famous live recordings at the legendary Black Hawk Club at the corner of Turk & Hyde will be re-created today. Selections as Walking, Oleo Bye-Bye Blackbird and more will be performed. Some of the most popular and best-selling recordings by miles are the two LPs that were recorded at the legendary Black Hawk club in San Francisco at the corner of Turk and Hyde. Black Hawk was perhaps Miles' favorite jazz club. These recordings featured the stellar quintet of Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb.
The Miles at the Black Hawk club presentation at the jazz heritage Center theater is a premier performance in the Bay Area. Comparable to New York in the heyday of the jazz era, San Francisco had a rich and strong jazz scene. Visiting New York musicians loved performing in San Francisco. The Black Hawk was Miles' favorite club. This, a first time musically historic event presented in the Bay Area, is not only a tribute to Miles, but a tribute to the San Francisco's historic jazz heritage.
Radio broadcaster & historian, Sonny Buxton, will comment on the music and the times.
