SUSAN CATTANEO
Susan Cattaneo is not afraid of the dark. A powerful singer and sophisticated songwriter, Susan has seen the darkness in the corners and sings about it fearlessly. Following in the footsteps of Matraca Berg, Kim Richey, Lucinda Williams and Gretchen Peters, the well-respected Boston artist combines vivid storytelling with a modern songwriter's spin. Call it New England Americana with a twang. Respectful of tradition, but not bound by it, Susan blends rock, folk and blues with a healthy dose of country.
Her fourth and latest album, Haunted Heart, was produced by Lorne Entress and released to critical acclaim. Songs from the record have earned Susan a spot in the finals at Kerrville's New Folk Contest. Susan was also a regional finalist at the Mountain Stage New Song Contest, a finalist in the USA Songwriting Competition, the Independent Music Awards and the International Acoustic Music Awards. The record was named one of the Top 100 Albums of the Year by the Alternate Root and won 2015 Album of the Year at Limelight Music Awards.
JULIE RAMA WINSLOW "That girls got groove like no folksinger I know!"- Matt Smith of Club Passim
Julie Rama Winslow has been performing around the Boston area for over 20 years. She started as an opera singer, but realized it wasn't her passion. She started gigging as a solo singer/songwriter and with her band Smooch. She sang in the award winning children's band The Jumping Monkeys for years, and is now back in the world of "grown up" music. Julie Rama is a strong performer with a great sense of fun. She says she enjoys the feeling of "putting on a show" for the audience. In this way, she has as much in common with pop artists as she does with more traditional "folk" performers. Thus, she cites Madonna and Bjork as inspirations to her as much as Joni Mitchell or Shawn Colvin. Julie is joined by two spectacular musicians, Richard Gates on bass and Ian McMillan on drums.
MORE ON SUSAN CATTANEO "Cattaneo has been playing around Boston and its environs for a while, sometimes solo and sometimes with stellar players. She rocks with the best of them and also sings ballads so sweetly and lovingly that it can bring tears to the eyes of those listening" No Depression
"Ultimately it's rare to find an artist so willing to invest her psyche so fully into her songs, but the return on Cattaneo's commitment also makes for a compelling set of songs." American Songwriter
"She's able to blend gritty semi-confessional bluesy sounds with poetic conversational lyrics" Austin Daze
"Her voice is somewhere between national treasure and weapon of mass destruction" Daily Vault
