FAQ - FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: HOW CAN I PARTICIPATE IN CREATING LUNARBURN? A: There are many ways to participate. Most important is volunteering. There are many volunteer positions available. MATT COPE is our Volunteer Coordinator. He can be contacted at LunarBurnVolunteers@yahoo.com.
Q: IF I JUST WANTED TO COME SEE THE SOLAR ECLIPSE ON SUNDAY, DO I HAVE TO PAY FULL TICKET PRICE? A: No. We understand this is a long drive to come for just the eclipse and will have a $20 ticket at the gate after midnight on Sunday.
Q: WILL THE EVENT SELL OUT? A: Not unless we get a huge run at the gate that was not anticipated. Presale tickets sales will gauge how large we plan this event to be. The event site can take more than we can accommodate in our first year. SO BUY YOUR TICKETS PRESALE PLEASE!
Q: WHERE THE HELL IS THIS EVENT LOCATED? A: The exact location is called PermaBurn. Latitude: 41.08N, Longitude: 120.54W. It is about one hour north of Susanville, CA off the 395 or about fifteen minutes from Likely, CA. Approximate driving time from Reno: 3 hours. Sacramento: 5 hours. Bay Area: 6 hours.
Q: IS THERE ANY AFFILIATION TO BURNING MAN IN THIS EVENT? A: The short answer is No. The long answer is, we are a group of Burners who took the advice of the Burning Man organization and decided to create a smaller version of Burning Man for our friends who didn't get a ticket and for those who would like to see what it's all about but have never gotten the chance. This is not a Sanctioned Burning Man event. It's just a Burner event.
Q: WHAT IS THE AGE RANGE FOR THIS EVENT? A: Like Burning Man, this event is all ages. We have a few rules that need to be followed. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent. This is not a rave, this is a Burner event.
Q: WILL THERE BE NUDITY? A: Most likely. Anything you can expect to see at Burning Man, you are likely to see here. If nudity offends you, think twice about going. If anything offends you, think twice about going.
Q: WILL THERE BE A PLACE FOR KIDS? A: Yes. We are setting up a Family Camping area with a Community Area for the kids. There will be daily activities all weekend long.
Q: CAN I BRING MY DOG? A: Yes. Like Burning Man used to be, this is a pet friendly event. All people bringing pets will need to camp in the Pet Campgrounds near the Dog Park. PETS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE EVENT AREA. They must be kept at camp. DOGS MUST BE ON LEASHES AT ALL TIMES EXCEPT WHEN IN THE DOG PARK.
Q: WHAT DO I DO ABOUT TRASH? A: Like Burning Man, there will be no trash cans at this event. It is a LEAVE NO TRACE event, which means everything you bring you take with you. NO MOOPing ALLOWED! MOOP = Matter Out Of Place. If it looks like it doesn't belong there, it doesn't, SO PICK IT UP!
Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING? A: The short answer is everything. There will be a food court with vendors in it in case you want something special or shared all you had. This is the only thing you can buy at LunarBurn. That's not completely true. PermaBurn will have a booth on hand to sell memberships, but I recommend getting it before hand because the price might go up.
Q: CAN WE BUY ICE AT LUNARBURN? A: Only if the vendors will sell it to you. Because this is only a three day event, you should be able to bring enough ice for the entire weekend.
Q: WHAT HAPPENS IF THE EVENT SITE GETS RAINED OUT BEFORE THE EVENT? A: We enjoy this event in the rain!
Q: HOW EARLY CAN WE COME TO SETUP? A: Members of PermaBurn can come anytime they like. People coming to setup at LunarBurn can show up anytime Thursday or Friday to setup their camp or project. TICKET HOLDERS AND TICKET BUYERS SHOULD NOT SHOW UP UNTIL AFTER NOON ON FRIDAY. If you need more time, that can be arranged.
Q: HOW LONG CAN I STAY AFTER THE EVENT? A: Members of PermaBurn can stay as long as they like. People coming just for LunarBurn will need to move off site as soon as everything from the event has been cleaned up.
Q: WHAT ABOUT LEAVING MY STUFF THERE? A: If you are a PermaBurn member, you can store stuff onsite all year long. For non-members who have a project they are bringing to Burning Man and would like to set it up at LunarBurn, we have a special arrangement that you can leave your project at PermaBurn until the week before Burning Man.
Q: WHAT IF I NEED TO LEAVE AND COME BACK DURING THE EVENT? A: Because this is a one lane road in and out of PermaBurn, we caution against it, but we are not going to keep you there and we are NOT charging an IN AND OUT fee.
Q: IS THERE LAW ENFORCEMENT AT LUNARBURN? A: Since PermaBurn is a private property, local police will be unable to come onto the property without a warrant. We will have private security as well as PermaBurn rangers throughout the event. PARTY RESPONSIBLY!
Q: ARE THERE RV FACILITIES & WHAT'S IT LIKE TO CAMP? A: This is in the middle of no where. There are no plug-in facilities or services for RVs.
Q: CAN I BRING FIREARMS? A: No.
LunarBurn will be hosted by the PermaBurn community located in Northern California, one hour north of Susanville (120 miles from Gerlach). For more information on the PermaBurn Community, or further directions, please visit www.permaburn.org
