ADVANCED TICKET SALES HAVE ENDED FOR THIS EVENT. TICKETS AT THE DOOR ONLY. SOME SEATS REMAIN ON A FIRST-COME-FIRST SERVE BASIS.
Antiquité Maison Privée hosts New Orleans-based clarinetist Evan Christopher and his "Clarinet Road." An acoustic concert experience celebrates traditional New Orleans music in this elegant Midtown Sacramento space. For devotees and aficionados of early jazz, this all-ages program will be a special evening.
California native Evan Christopher has called New Orleans home since 1994. Anchored in the musical vocabulary created by early Creole clarinetists such as Sidney Bechet, Omer Simeon, and Barney Bigard, his highly personal brand of "contemporary early-jazz" strives to extend the legacy of the New Orleans clarinet style. Charismatic and versatile, Christopher's intimate approach has been described by The New York Times as "close-encounter music." Critics especially note his respect for the New Orleans tradition, calling his music: "a triumph, joining the present seamlessly to a glorious past."
Evan Christopher's featured performers for this concert include guitar phenom, Nahum Zydybl, the spirited and winsome vocalist, Molly Reeves and bassist Paul Klempau.
Molly Reeves is also New Orleans-based and is quickly being recognized as a rising star in swing and traditional jazz circles. Nahum Zdybel is a Los Angeles-based guitarist and a playful, yet restless, improviser with deep roots in early jazz. Stalwart bassist Paul Klempau is a versatile Sacramento-based artist.
