John Patitucci Trio w/ Jon Cowherd and Adam Cruz
To get a sence of bassist Patitucci's scope, take a look at a small sample of his musical journey... He has played throughout the world with his own band, and with jazz luminaries Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, Hubert Laws and Sting. He has been nominated for, and or won, many Grammy Awards in both compositional and instrumental categories. John has been described as... a "fleet-fingered phenom", having a "less-is-more, slyly syncopated aesthetic", a "sense of restraint and relaxation in his playing" and "relentlessly fluid, horn-like chops". He is all of the above and more !!
Jon Cowherd's playing shows an artful touch to the keys in ways Thelonious Monk used to, (with emphasis on just the right dynamic at just the right time and a sense of harmonic imagination that is tied to the music of the moment). The Kentucky-born, New Orleans-schooled, New York-based pianist is best known as co-founder with Brian Blade of the Fellowship Band which features his singular compositional skills.
Adam Cruz is a creative force on the international jazz scene who has played regularly with artists who treat Latin jazz as a point of departure... incorporating Afro-Caribbean and South American rhythms in much of his work. The end result is always suprising and inovative. "Mr. Cruz has helped establish the pulse of a generation bent on genre-busting jazz." Wall Street Journal Online.
