Buckeye Knob Post-Thanksgiving Treat
Stuffed?! Come join us on a rigorous hike at Buckeye Knob! Buckeye Knob is located at the top of Sonoma Mountain, is privately owned property and forever protected through a conservation easement donated to the Sonoma County Agricultural Preservation and Open Space District (the District) by the property owners. The 52-acre property is located on a highly-visible, south-facing hillside and includes grassland, oak woodland, and the lush upper canyon of Carriger Creek. Sonoma Ecology Center naturalists will share their natural history knowledge while we get an invigorating post-Thanksgiving workout into our weekend. The discussion will inevitably turn to the outstanding large oaks, bays, and madrones; intriguing volcanic rocks; hawks, deer, and other wildlife; and some surprising history contained on the property. Hikers will explore the canyon first, and then climb to the top of the knob for a picnic lunch while enjoying the view. This is an intermediate level hike with some steep ascents and descents. While the hike is relatively short, there is some elevation gain and very uneven footing. There is no charge for the outing, as it is made possible by the voters of Sonoma County who fund the District's work with a quarter cent sales tax. REGISTER TODAY! Reservations are required online by 5pm on Friday, November 27th, 2015. Directions and day-of contact information will be emailed upon registration.
