Dinner and Bikes
Dinner & Bikes is a month-long tour of the southeastern U.S. in April and May, 2012. Our goal is to bring people together to eat delicious food and get inspired about bicycle transportation.
Joshua Ploeg, Joe Biel, and Elly Blue are traversing the southern U.S. in spring, 2012, bringing you an entertaining evening that includes talk about bicycle inspiration, vegan food, and a traveling bookstore.
You'll start by fill up your plate, finding a seat, and start enjoying new and amazing flavor combinations cooked up by touring vegan chef Joshua.
Our hosts welcome everyone and talk about local bicycling issues and ways to get involved. Then Elly talks about the bicycling economy, with photos, interspersed with Joe's short, inspiring movies about Portland's bike culture.
At the end there'll be time for questions and to peruse our mobile book and zine shop, featuring transportation and food related titles.
About the Crew: Joshua Ploeg is the the traveling vegan chef. When not touring the world, he is a personal chef and delighter of secret cafe goers in Los Angeles. His adventure cookbook In Search of the Lost Taste is a smash hit. He'll also have a new, expanded edition of his controversial raw food zine, So Raw It's Downright Filthy.
Joe Biel founded Microcosm Publishing in his bedroom 16 years ago and now publishes nonfiction books, zines, and movies through Microcosm and Cantankerous Titles. In his "spare time" he makes documentaries on empowering topics from punk to bicycling, and is making Aftermass, a feature documentary about bicycle activism in Portland. He will be touring with his new movie collection, Cycling Shorts, and the zine Bipedal #3: A History of Bicycle Activism in Portland, Oregon.
Elly Blue blogs about bicycle transportation and grassroots culture at Taking the Lane. She is the co-founder of PDX by Bike and of the Portland Society. Her writing has appeared in Grist, Bitch, BikePortland, Momentum, and the Portland Mercury, among other places. Her recent zines are Bikenomics: How Bicycling Can Save the Economy (If We Let It) and the Taking the Lane series. She doesn't use that one very popular social media site.
