LYRIC AT CHRISTMAS
Lyric singers will perform numerous old Christmas favourites, as well some Classical and modern compositions. "Lyric at Christmas" will also feature violin, cello and trumpet accompaniment. There will also be an audience Christmas carol sing-a-long. THIS WILL BE AN EXCITING AND VARIED PERFORMANCE THAT SHOULD EMBODY THE JOY AND EXCITEMENT OF THE SEASON. THE CHOIR: LYRIC SINGERS was founded in 1994. In addition to performing an annual spring concert they also established a popular Christmas tradition, the Boar's Head Madrigal Dinner that featured a spit-roasted pig, its head born in on a platter to the "Boar's Head Carol" performed by the singers in full medieval dress. This pageant will again be performed at Christmas 2016. Nancy Rahn became the new Artistic Director in 2002. The Lyric Singers are accomplished musicians with wide musical backgrounds. The choir also includes a few teen singers who add a special timbre to the group's sound. In keeping with their 2006 Mission Statement, The Lyric Singers focus on performing the best choral music past and present, building the instruments and skills of the singers, instilling a love of choral art, striving for excellence in performance, presenting an extensive repertoire in numerous venues in Surrey and beyond while supporting the work of Canadian composers. In addition to regular performances, the Lyric Singers have enjoyed successful collaborations with world-class musicians such as Rita Costanzi and Heidi Kreutzen as well as individual members of the VSO Brian G'Froerer, Steve Denroche, Heather Walker and Ellen Faruggia. They also joined forces with Vancouver-based Phoenix Chamber Choir and Electra Women's choir. Though they regularly perform a cappella and accompanied works from the Renaissance to present-day, The Lyric Singers are committed to performing the works of Canadian composers. They have also commissioned a work "Surge Illuminare" by Ramona Luengen and recorded three CDs: A Scarlet Lily Flamed (2007), All my Heart Rejoices (2008) and Love & Joy (2012). Tonight's concert is part of their twenty second year of splendid music making.
